Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul To Pick Up Option For Next Season

The Los Angeles Clippers expected point guard Chris Paul to pick up his contract option for next season when they traded for him and on Friday he confirmed just that to ESPN Radio.

Paul will remain with the Clippers for at least one more year and that seems just fine with the rest of the team and fan base.

“I’m on West Coast time,” Paul told ESPN Radio. “I wake up every day and the sun’s out and it’s beautiful, and basketball’s not going too bad at all, either.”

Paul is exactly what the Clippers needed to be successful and with guard Chauncey Billups out for the rest of the season they will need him more than ever. Paul was voted an All-Star for the fifth time in his career and will be the starting point guard for the Western Conference.

Paul has already publicly shared his appreciation for being able to play with talented players such as Blake Griffin while also being a part of a great organization that is dedicated to building a championship caliber team around him. He has also admitted it is nice to sit back and watch his teammates take over games opposed to him feeling the pressure of making every shot.

“(Coach) Vinny (Del Negro) is always telling me be aggressive, be aggressive, go score, go score. I realize I have the ball so much that I can get a shot any time that I want to, but it’s not an individual game. I need to make sure my teammates know I’ll find them,” Paul said, according to ESPN. “Even in the fourth quarter may be a situation where a defender comes over, I have to know that my teammates know I’m a willing passer.”

In 26 games this season, Paul is averaging 19.2 points, 8.6 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. The Clippers are third in the Western Conference with a 20-11 record behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.
