Fantasy Football Week 6 Sleeper: RB Storm Johnson

Storm Johnson, Fantasy Football Week 6

The Jacksonville Jaguars will not have running back Toby Gerhart (foot) available for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, which puts rookie Storm Johnson in line for a big workload. Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman are also in the mix for touches, but Jaguars’ head coach Gus Bradley indicated a few days ago that Johnson was in line for more opportunities this week after getting 27 yards on four carries in Week 5.

The Titans allowed 174 rushing yards to the Cleveland Browns’ running backs in Week 5, and from Week 2-Week 4 they allowed at least 24 fantasy points (ESPN scoring) to the position in each game along with five total rushing touchdowns. Some of that production can be attributed to volume, as running backs have combined for at least 35 carries in three of five games against Tennessee this season, but Johnson could easily see 20-plus carries on Sunday and reap the benefits.

The Jaguars’ offensive line has struggled this season, ranking just 29th in the league as a run blocking unit according to Pro Football Focus. So that has certainly been a factor in the struggles of Gerhart, Robinson or anyone else that has carried the ball for Jacksonville thus far, and I wouldn’t expect a dramatic change with Johnson taking a more prominent role.

Johnson is worth a speculative add in 12 and 14-team leagues for owners that seek running back depth, and for Week 6 he is worth a look as a low-end RB2 or flex with a favorable matchup on the slate. Johnson is unlikely to offer much as a pass catcher, but based purely on carry volume 90-100 rushing yards and double-digit fantasy points is a possibility.
