Fantasy Football Week 11 Sleeper: Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings, Fantasy Football

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has not been a fantasy stud to this point, with just three touchdown passes and five interceptions. But he did average over 250 passing yards per game in the two games prior to Minnesota’s Week 10 bye, while not throwing an interception in either game, and he had 29 total fantasy points (ESPN scoring) in those games.

The Vikings will travel to take on the reeling Chicago Bears in Week 11, and not surprisingly it’s a favorable situation for Bridgewater and the entire offense. The Bears have allowed 13 touchdown passes over the last three games (11 in their last two games), and they enter this week’s action yielding the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks (20.8 per game; ESPN scoring).

The Vikings will welcome back tight end Kyle Rudolph (groin) on Sunday, which adds a notable weapon for Bridgewater that he has not had in any of his five starts. There’s a chance Rudolph is eased back into action in his first game since Week 3, but he is a big target (6’6″) and a red zone threat that no other Vikings’ pass catcher has been.

In FanDuel contests for this week Bridgewater is a solid value pick, with a $6,600 salary. Alex Smith ($7,300), Josh McCown ($7,000) and Derek Carr ($6,600) are more expensive than Bridgewater, and of that trio only McCown has anything close to the rookie’s upside with a similarly favorable matchup coming. A signal caller that has lost his starting job (Ryan Fitzpatrick-$6,800) will also cost more than Bridgewater on FanDuel this week, and I assume there’s a similar sampling of mediocre quarterbacks that have higher salaries than Bridgewater on other sites that have weekly contests.

In 12 and 14-team leagues, Bridgewater is an excellent plug-and-play for owners that have Tony Romo on a bye this week. Beyond that, he is a solid choice as a high upside QB2 in leagues where two quarterbacks can be started.
