Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Bishop Sankey

Bishop Sankey was the first running back off the board in May’s draft, selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round (54th overall), and with Shonn Greene as his main competition for playing time he immediately landed on the radar of fantasy football owners. Sankey has yet to produce at a high level this season, but he has at least 16 carries in three of his last four games along with seven receptions over his last two games.

A Monday night matchup in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers looks favorable for the rookie running back, but can fantasy owners that have waited for a breakout performance start him confidently?

The Steelers have not been particularly generous to running backs so far this season, allowing 15.7 fantasy points per game (ESPN scoring) to the position and just 176 rushing yards total over their last three games. But they will be without safety Troy Polamalu (knee) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (ankle) again on Monday night, which can only be good news for the entire Titans’ offense and Sankey stands to benefit as long as his workload remains notable.

Greene is no threat to Sankey’s playing time after being benched last week, and Dexter McCluster (knee) looks unlikely to play after being injured last Sunday. With a fellow rookie under center in Zach Mettenberger, it’s easy to envision Sankey getting 20 or more touches for the first time in his career on Monday night.

Sankey is obviously not an every week fantasy starter, and he has a fair amount of downside this week even in a favorable-looking matchup. But those that have limited options at running back, due to bye week or injury issues, can cross their fingers and consider using him as a low-end RB2 or flex.
