Cleveland Browns tight end Jordan Cameron had a breakout season in 2013, with 80 receptions for 917 yards and seven touchdowns, which had him highly regarded in fantasy football circles heading into this year. But a shoulder issue, and more recently a concussion, have limited Cameron to six games this season and his production has been dismal (13 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown) even when he has been able to suit up.

Cameron has missed the last four games with his third concussion since 2012, but ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi reported on Tuesday that he is on track to return for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Leaving any lingering concerns over his head injury aside, at least for a moment, is Cameron starter material for his fantasy owners this week?

The Bills have only allowed two tight end touchdowns all season, and they’ve only allowed 10 total fantasy points (ESPN scoring) to the position in their last five games. Go ahead and read that last part again……Now Buffalo has not exactly faced a lot of great tight ends during that stretch, and the best tight ends they’ve faced this season have had productive outings against them. Charles Clay of the Miami Dolphins had 12 receptions in two games against the Bills this season, while Martellus Bennett (eight catches for 70 yards and a touchdown) and Rob Gronkowski (seven receptions for 94 yards) also had notable games against them. A healthy Cameron belongs in the top tier of fantasy tight ends alongside that aforementioned trio, and the return of wide receiver Josh Gordon for the Browns in Week 12 is also good news.

Cameron absolutely belongs in fantasy lineups in Week 13, as long as he remains on track to play on Sunday. The fact he actually returned to practice last Friday bodes well for his ability to play, but this Friday’s final injury report of the week will bring more clarity.

If Cameron is listed as questionable, then there’s some obvious risk in starting him this week. But if he is listed as probable, which is what I expect at this point, Cameron is a legit TE1 in a matchup that is not as tough as it looks on the surface.
