The Minnesota Twins are lingering around .500 (10-12) right now, but it's safe to say they are not going to be a legit playoff contender this year.

With an eye toward the future, here are five Twins' prospects that could earn a promotion to the big leagues at some point in May.

An injury-plagued 2014 season derailed Buxton's rise through Minnesota's minor league system, but there are signs he is turning around a slow start this year in Double-A with hits in five of his last six games. A brief stop in Triple-A can't be ruled out, but Buxton could be patrolling the outfield at Target Field fairly soon.

Sano's slow start for Double-A Chattanooga this season led to him being held out of the lineup for a couple games earlier this week. But he hit his fourth home run of the season Thursday night and he has drawn 12 walks in 76 plate appearances. If Sano gets it going offensively for a solid stretch of games, a two-level promotion could come this month.

Meyer has gone five innings or less in three of his four starts for Triple-A Rochester so far this season, and control has still been an issue (14 walks over 18.2 innings). Still, a couple solid starts in a row could bring a call-up and the Twins could use Meyer in a bullpen role initially.

2. RP Lester Oliveros

Oliveros will turn 27 on May 28, so he clearly stretches the definition of a prospect. But he seems to have found a niche as a reliever for Rochester early this season, with 21 strikeouts and just three walks over 10.2 innings, and the Twins could use someone in a middle relief role that can miss bats.

Rosario is 7-for-17 over the last four games for Rochester, with one home run and four RBI over the last three. He has been in the outfield exclusively this season, but he has played second base in the lower levels of the minors and that position flexibility could make Rosario useful to the Twins.
