The Cleveland Cavaliers have already built a lot of chemistry throughout this season, but they still need to address their bench issues. They obviously missed out on Corey Brewer, however, there is still time for them to add a legitimate role player like Ray Allen or Jermaine O’Neal. The center claims to desire being added to the Dallas Mavericks after their recent addition of Rajon Rondo. This would not be the best course for O’Neal, because he is not ready to deal with all of those Western Conference big men.
The Cavs picking him up, on the other hand, would make perfect sense, because even though he lives in Dallas, the best path to a championship resides in Cleveland. Obviously, the Mavs are a better team after adding Rondo, but the journey is much easier in the Eastern Conference.
It should be fun to watch how things play out, and superstar LeBron James thinks the Cavs have enough to win it all.
“The guys in the locker room is who we have and I think we can compete against anybody when we’re playing at our best,” James said after Thursday’s practice. “But it’s going to take us to maintain our focus every single day, because we cannot afford to take a step backwards because a lot of teams are just better than us as far as chemistry, as far as the camaraderie they have over the years, and we don’t have that.”
Whether they can build that chemistry will be up to the starters, but the Cavs certainly have a better foundation now than they did this time last year. Adding a frontline player like O’Neal would do wonders for their bench, though, and a move like that could result in their first championship. One thing is not up for debate: Cleveland’s entertainment value is peaking just in time for Christmas.
