After a stretch that has seen the team lose nine out of 10 games and fall to 23-31 on the season, Derek Fisher was fired as head coach of the New York Knicks on Monday. Fisher appeared to be team president Phil Jackson’s hand-picked head coach, after losing out on Steve Kerr, but a 40-96 record was apparently not good enough to exercise some patience.

As a five-time NBA champion during his playing career, Fisher should not lack for opportunities if he wants to continue to coach. Here are five possible landing spots for Fisher going forward.

The Timberwolves seem unlikely to keep Sam Mitchell in place as head coach beyond this season. Fisher may be able to reach and motivate young players, which is an area Mitchell has struggled with at times, so he looks like a possible fit for Minnesota if they look to make a change.
