With just over 48 hours left before the deadline, the NBA trade rumor mill is at full tilt. The Cleveland Cavaliers‘ championship aspirations could lead to them being involved in a move, and forward Kevin Love is surely the biggest potential trade chip they have if a deal is going to happen.
It’s always seemed unlikely that Cleveland would trade Love during the season, and Tuesday morning’s report from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst seems to reflect that. The Cavaliers apparently want a large or “star-studded” package in return for Love, which further limits the trade market for the former All-Star with very few teams likely to even consider that asking price.
The Cavaliers could use upgrades in some very specific areas, and despite consistent rumors they have repeatedly denied that Love is on the trade block. A report around the time of David Blatt‘s firing as head coach seems to show the locker room does not share that sentiment, with the suggestion that players thought the meeting to announce the firing was to announce Love had been dealt.
On the floor, at minimum, Love has struggled to fit in consistently with the Cavaliers over the last season and a half or so. But that does not mean he should (or will) be traded over the next two days, and general manager David Griffin‘s apparent desire to be blown away by an offer means Love will have to co-exist with LeBron James at least through the end of the season.
