Arkansas vs. Iowa State: Game Preview, Prediction

The No. 18 Arkansas Razorbacks have been the surprise of the 2014-15 college basketball season so far, by winning against the then-No. 22 SMU Mustangs and blowing out every other opponent. With the rapid decline of the Florida Gators, Arkansas has proven that it may be the only other favorite to go to the 2015 NCAA Tournament out of the SEC, next to Kentucky.

Next up for the Razorbacks is a difficult trip away from home to face the No. 20 Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State started off the season as a dark horse for the Big 12, but has disappointed up to this point. Several games it should’ve won by large margins, the team has only won by a few baskets.

This could be one of the best games of the season so far. Both teams are more than capable of making a deep tournament run, and both teams are highly underrated due to the talent at the top of their respective conferences. The winner of this game will carry momentum from this win into the rest of the season, especially Arkansas, if it can remain undefeated.

However, Iowa State has the upper hand in this one. The Cyclones lost to their toughest opposition so far, the Maryland Terrapins, but will bounce back against Arkansas. I think the Razorbacks are the better team, but Arkansas has been notoriously up and down away from home in the past and the Cyclones are desperate to win.

If these two teams meet up in the tournament, expect Arkansas to come away victorious. However, Iowa State wins this one behind a fantastic performance by Georges Niang and an underwhelming performance by Rashad Madden.
