In what was widely described as a drunken outburst, USC head coach Steve Sarkisian made headlines during a preseason booster event. It was clear that he needed help for whatever issues he is having, but he continued to coach when the season started.
Things came to a head on Sunday, when players reportedly noticed Sarkisian was not sober at a morning special teams meeting. Further reports suggest he may not have been sober during a Sept.26 game at Arizona State, to the point he was pulled out of a player huddle on the sideline.

Sarkisian has been forced to take an indefinite leave of absence, and it’s unclear if he will ever be back as Trojans’ head coach. But that should not obscure that he clearly needs help, and let’s hope he gets what he needs upon presumably entering a treatment program as soon as possible.
As we surely get more troubling details about his tenure, Sarkisian’s health and future well-being should be priority No. 1.
