Titus Davis is not one of the most-heralded wide receiver prospects in the 2015 draft class, but the Central Michigan product is now the only player in FBS history with at least eight touchdown receptions in all four years of his career. He landed on the national radar a bit by scoring a touchdown off multiple laterals late in the Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl, but that was likely the first time a lot of football fans had heard of Davis.
Here’s my scouting report on Davis, starting with his measurements that we will get a more official read on at the NFL Combine.
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 190 lbs.
Class: Senior
Strengths
- Is smooth and quick, almost to the point of looking nonchalant coming off the line of scrimmage
- Is very good after the catch-does not waste movement
- Has a surprisingly good catch radius
- Was highly productive in college (204 receptions for 3,705 yards, 37 touchdowns)
- Has experience as a kick returner
Weaknesses
- Is not a powerful blocker, but is not relied on to block often
- Looks undersized; probably needs to add strength to succeed at a high level in the NFL
- Level of competition in college (MAC Conference) may be cause for concern
Overview
CBS Sports.com has Davis as their 29th-ranked wide receiver right now, and a sixth-round pick. NFL scouts may take a closer look at his game against Miami of Ohio from last season, since rising cornerback prospect (and MAC Defensive Player of the Year) Quinten Rollins was also on the field and Davis had eight catches for 102 yards with three touchdowns.
Davis profiles similarly to fellow Central Michigan product Antonio Brown, and any team that drafts him is in position to get a good return on their investment. I don’t see Davis becoming one of the league’s best wide receivers like Brown has over the last couple seasons, but he can absolutely have a lengthy and productive NFL career.
