20 NFL Veterans Who Won't Make It Through 2015 Training Camp

NFL training camps are just over two months away now, and offseason workouts with rookies and veterans will come in June.

As teams shuffle their rosters over the course of the preseason, here are 20 NFL veterans who are in line to be cut during training camp.

20. Arthur Brown, LB, Baltimore Ravens

Brown has been a big disappointment since being a second-round pick in 2013, and he was often a healthy inactive last season before a hamstring issue shut him down for the season. He'll be fighting for a backup job in training camp, and it's hard to see Brown making it to Week 1 with the Ravens.

19. Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens

There's talk that the Ravens will put Pitta on the reserve/PUP list to start the season, as he works his way back from another hip injury. But they drafted two tight ends this year (Maxx Williams and Nick Boyle), to go along with 2014 draft pick Crockett Gillmore, so I think Pitta will be let go during camp.

18, Vick Ballard, RB, Indianapolis Colts

A torn ACL and a torn Achilles has limited Ballard to just one game over the last two seasons. With the additions of Frank Gore in free agency and Josh Robinson in the draft, Ballard will have a tough time cracking the Colts' running back rotation.

17. Trent Richardson, RB, Oakland Raiders

The Raiders signed Richardson to a two-year deal in March, but ESPN's Adam Caplan reported the contract includes just $600,000 in guaranteed money. Latavius Murray and Roy Helu should be Oakland's top two running backs, barring a significant injury, and it's hard to see Richardson making a strong case to stick around.

16, EJ Manuel, QB, Buffalo Bills

The Bills added Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor to their quarterback mix this offseason, and a report on Monday suggested they could cut Manuel if he doesn't show serious progress. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman has of course already refuted that suggestion, but Manuel is clearly on shaky ground right now.

15. Marquise Goodwin, WR, Buffalo Bills

Goodwin has just 18 receptions over his first two seasons (one in 2014), and the Bills seem intent on bumping him down the depth chart. Head coach Rex Ryan sang Goodwin's praises following voluntary workouts in April, but that will mean little when it comes time to make cuts in camp.

14. Toby Gerhart, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville is reportedly considering minimizing or changing Gerhart's role, and that was before they drafted T.J. Yeldon. At this point, Gerhart's roster spot is not guaranteed.

13. Jerome Simpson, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Off the field trouble has plagued Simpson's career, but that didn't stop the 49ers from signing him to a two-year deal in March. With younger receivers (Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton, Dres Anderson) in the mix, Simpson will have to clearly win a job and I don't think he'll be up to the task.

12. Lance Dunbar, RB, Dallas Cowboys

Leaving aside any lingering trade talk surrounding Adrian Peterson, the Cowboys have Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Ryan Williams in the mix at running back right now. Dunbar may simply be the odd-man out, unless he really impresses during training camp.

11. Chris Chester, OG, Washington Redskins

ESPN.com's John Keim has suggested that 2014 third-round pick Spencer Long could replace Chester as Washington's starting right guard. Chester's poor level of play last year makes it tough to justify his $3.5 million base salary for this year, so cutting ties should be easy for the Redskins.

10. Kendall Hunter, RB, San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers signed Hunter to a one-year contract extension last November, when he was early in the process of working his way back from a torn right ACL. But they've signed Reggie Bush and drafted Mike Davis this offseason, and I don't see a lot of room for Hunter.

9. Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills

ESPN.com's Mike Rodak has speculated that Jackson is not a lock to make Buffalo's 53-man roster, depending on how other skill positions shake out and how many running backs are kept. Even at 34 years old, Jackson would likely not lack for suitors if the Bills do cut him.

8. Josh Robinson, CB, Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings continue to make moves to reduce Robinson's role. Barring something unforeseen, I see him becoming one of their bigger name training camp cuts.

7. Lance Moore, WR, Detroit Lions

The Lions signed Moore to a one-year deal just a few days ago. But he has not been a particularly useful player since 2012, and I don't see him sticking in Detroit.

6. Tim Tebow, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Tebow could, in theory, win a competition with Matt Barkley to be Philadelphia's No. 3 quarterback. But I think if he doesn't embrace a multi-faceted role, including playing other positions, he'll be an easy cut for Chip Kelly.

5. Brandon Carr, CB, Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys want to reduce Carr's salary cap hit for 2015 (over $12 million), and rightfully so since he's been a disappointment over his first two seasons with the team. Even if a contract restructuring comes, I see Carr as a strong candidate to be cut during training camp.

4. Shonn Greene, RB, Tennessee Titans

Greene has been a bit of an underachiever throughout his career. Add in his age (30 on Aug. 21), and Greene's future will not be in Tennessee.

3. Riley Cooper, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

Riley Cooper Philadelphia Eagles
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

3. Riley Cooper, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

Cooper had a dismal season in 2014 (55 receptions for 577 yards and three touchdowns), and Pro Football Focus rated him dead-last among 110 qualifying wide receivers. He has an uphill climb to keep a roster spot, with plenty of competition in place (Miles Austin, Josh Huff, Davante Davis, etc.). Cutting Cooper would give the Eagles over $6 million in dead money against the salary cap this year, but they should be willing to do so.

2. Donald Brown, RB, San Diego Chargers

Brown averaged just 2.6 yards per carry for the Chargers last season, on 85 carries over 13 games. He'll be in the mix with Branden Oliver and a healthy Danny Woodhead in the pecking behind first-round pick Melvin Gordon, which is a battle I see Brown losing in camp.

1. Hakeem Nicks, WR, Tennessee Titans

The Titans took a one-year flier on Nicks in late-April, however inexplicably. But there is reportedly not much guaranteed money ($100,000) in the contract, so it will be easy to cut ties if (when?) he fails to impress in training camp.

ESPN's Adam Schefter Savagely Insults Cleveland Browns On TV

Everyone knows the Cleveland Browns haven't been incredibly successful since they made their triumphant comeback in 1999. But things in Cleveland seem to be getting worse, as they have a ton of holes to fill and have been a complete no-show in NFL free agency. ESPN's Adam Schefter dropped a #truthbomb about the Browns on television today, and it was glorious.
