The Houston Texans are leading the AFC South with a 7-7 record entering Week 16, and they could be a playoff team by default as a division winner. But trimming the roster heading toward next season will be necessary, if only to open up spots for better talent, so here are five players the Texans should cut during the 2016 offseason.

5. LB Brian Cushing

Cushing has played all 14 games so far this season, with good production (103 total tackles), but he'll turn 29 in January and has four not fully guaranteed years left on his contract. The Texans can't bet on Cushing staying healthy again in 2016, so a tough offseason decision to cut him should come.

4. QB Brian Hoyer

Hoyer is in the first year of a two-year deal, but the Texans should be looking to upgrade their entire quarterback depth chart next offseason. Cutting Hoyer, while not obvious, might be the best move for Houston.

3. FS Rahim Moore

Moore was benched in early November, and he missed last week's game with an illness. There will be two years remaining on the deal he signed last offseason, with $6 million in total base salary, but the Texans would better of cutting Moore as soon as they can.

2. TE Garrett Graham

Graham has just four receptions in eight games played so far this season, and Ryan Griffin has effectively passed him on the depth chart. He is not due huge money next year ($3 million base salary), but the Texans can do much better than Graham at tight end.

1. RB Arian Foster

Foster has played just 25 games over the last three seasons due to a variety of injuries, and he'll turn 30 next August. Foster is also due $7 million in salary and bonuses in 2016, in the final year of his contract, so the Texans would be wise to cut bait a year early.
