After a dominating performance against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, it’s safe to say the defense of the Denver Broncos will go down as one of the best in NFL history. However, as impressive as the Broncos looked against the Panthers, the team should be concerned over what was said by Aqib Talib shortly after the win and what was posted on the team’s social media pages on Facebook and Twitter.
“There ain’t no Easter Bunny, there ain’t no Santa Claus, there ain’t no Superman.” – Aqib pic.twitter.com/MPhrwd2r7Z
— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) February 8, 2016
First off, Talib should consider himself lucky when looking at the three dumb penalties he committed against Carolina that only proved how much of a hothead he can truly be. Second, Talib and the Broncos need to realize how many young fans who believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny most likely heard this comment after the game.
The Super Bowl is one of those special occasions where parents tend to let their younger ones stay up a little later to watch these types of events — especially if they happen to be fans of the team. It’s one thing for Talib to take a shot at Cam Newton for always claiming to be Superman, but it’s even worse to see Denver’s social media team promote the quote on their Facebook page.
The NFL has fans of all ages and as ridiculous as it sounds, there were most likely some parents who had to explain to their kids why Talib said what he said about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. For the sake of younger fans, let’s hope Talib and the Broncos can learn from what was said after the Super Bowl and avoid saying insensitive things moving forward.
