LONDON – According to The London Mail Online, Arsenal Gunners captain, Robin van Persie has been named the Professional Football Association’s Players’ Player Of The Year.

Persie, 28, would edge out fellow rivals such as Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, Scott Park from North London rival Tottenham and the talented Manchester City trio of Joe Hart, Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Led by Van Persie’s 34 goals in all competitions, the former Feyenoord standout would help lift the Gunners for a 13th place start in early August to their current spot of third on the Barclays Premier League table.

van Persie, who has rumored to possibly leave Arsenal for Champions League sides such as FC Barcelona, Manchester City, would join former Arsenal Gunner legend Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer as the only two players to score 30 goals in EPL history.

van Persie would also break Shearer’s record for most goals scored in a Barclays League calendar year.

Without question, that van Persie is the single reason why the Gunners will most likely lock up a Champions League slot for next year, may have also earned some leverage in future negotiations.

For without the services of the man commonly known to Gooners as “RVP”, Arsenal would realistically be a mid-to-low level side.

With van Persie’s contract set to run out in 2013, the Gunners would be more than wise to lock up the talented striker long-term if they hope to remain legitimate contenders in both England and in all of Europe.
