The New York Mets climbed out of last place, ended a losing streak and had a starter win a game for the first time this month. All in the same game. It was a pleasant trifecta, especially after the weekend meltdown in Florida. Mike Pelfrey (5-1) pitched 7.2 innings, allowed two runs and got the Atlanta Braves to ground into three double plays. You wouldn’t think the first win from a starter would come 17 days into the month, but the way the Mets were playing you expected they might go the entire month without a win from a starter. Unlike the games in Florida, it was the Mets who jumped out to a lead they would never relinquished. Rod Barajas put them up 2-0 with a double off Derek Lowe (5-4) in the second inning.
