Pirates Edge Braves On Walkoff Blast
Zach Duke pitched seven strong innings and Ryan Doumit blasted a game-winning walkoff homerun as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Braves 3-2 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Duke scattered seven hits and allowed just one unearned run in seven innings pitched, and was in line for the win, but Eric Hinske connected for a game-tying solo blast off Pirates’ reliever Evan Meek in the eighth inning to tie the game, setting the stage for Doumit’s tenth inning heroics. And with two out in the bottom of the tenth, Doumit launched a pitch from Atlanta reliever Takashi Saito into the right field seats, giving the Pirates a 3-2 walk-off win.
