Heyward Named NL Rookie of the Month
For the second straight month, Braves’ rightfielder Jason Heyward has been named the National League’s Rookie of the Month after leading Atlanta to a 20-8 record and into first place in May. Heyward led all MLB rookies with a .337 batting average, four homeruns, three triples, 16 walks, 19 runs scored, and 19 runs-batted-in during the month of May, while posting a .453 on-base percentage and a .628 slugging percentage. Heyward now leads all MLB rookies in homeruns (10), runs-batted-in (38), extra-base hits (23), walks (31), on-base percentage (.420), and slugging percentage (.567), and currently ranks fifth among NL outfielders in MLB’s All-Star Game balloting.
