Jeff Van Gundy To Coach As L.A. Clippers Lead Assistant

Jeff Van Gundy, who has had a successful career as a front office executive in NBA league is on the verge of making his return to coaching. After 16 seasons as a TV analyst for ESPN and this season serving as a consultant for Boston Celtics, Van Gundy signed on with Los Angeles Clippers to be Ty Lue’s chief assistant coach.

Van Gundy brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Clippers after having coached earlier for 11 seasons in the NBA with Houston Rockets and New York Knicks. In his stint, he amassed 430-318 win/loss record while leading Knicks into NBA finals in 1999. He later moved into broadcasting with ESPN where he became one of their voices during broadcasts.

He became a senior consultant for the Boston Celtics in their basketball operations group. Friends close to the situation have disclosed that Van Gundy chose to take the Clippers’ job under the influence of Ty Lue his personal friend whom he coached with before in 2004 while at Rockets.
