Duke To Redshirt Plumlee Brother
No, the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils are not redshirting Mason or Miles Plumlee, but they are redshirting their younger brother, Marshall, a freshman on campus this season.
The Plumlee brothers make up a dynamic-duo in the post for Duke, averaging a combined 16 rebounds per night. However, their dominance has actually blocked out their younger brother Marshall from playing time.
This is not a bad problem to have for Coach K and company. The Blue Devils biggest strength this season is their young wealth of talent. Albeit inexperienced, they are stacked with future studs. Marshall Plumlee joins fellow freshman Austin Rivers in what could be a lethal combo in the future if Rivers sticks around. (Both pictured above at All-American Game last season)
Either way, the Blue Devils problems do not lie with missing talent, Duke just needs to get these youngsters experience quickly. The rest of college basketball is not going to stick around and wait for Duke to get better. Teams like Ohio State are going to take full advantage of a vulnerable Duke unit while they still can. It won’t be long before we’re talking about Duke as national title contenders.
