NCAA Basketball Tournament: North Carolina vs. Creighton Preview
By Adam McGill
Game: (1) North Carolina – (8) Creighton 3/18 5:15 PM ET
Bracket: Midwest Region
Game Analysis: UNC continues to plow through teams on their way to yet anther NCAA Championship. The Tar Heels have been winning games easily without their star forward, John Henson, so his return could be critical to their hopes down the stretch. Center Tyler Zeller has continued to lead the low post with an outstanding 19.6 points and 12 rebounds per game without their star forward, but he would love to have his partner in crime back. Creighton brings one of the top offenses with them to Greensboro, North Carolina, for what will obviously be a home game for the Tar Heels. Creighton sophomore, Doug McDermott is third in the nation with 23.2 points per game, which is not bad for a kid from a small private school in Omaha, Nebraska.
Matchup to Watch: F Doug McDermott, Creighton vs. F John Henson, North Carolina – Creighton has one of the best scoring forwards in the nation, as McDermott posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s opening game. This matchup will completely depend on the fact that Henson will be able to play following a lingering wrist injury. If he cannot go then the team will start freshman James Michael McAdoo, who has played surprisingly well in the last week.
Matchup to Watch: G Kendall Marshall vs. G Taylor Stormberg, Creighton – Marshall is averaging an amazing 9.7 assists per contest and the sophomore has really matured into one of the premier point guards in the nation. He is extremely vigilant while moving down the floor and knows where to be at all times. Marshall will be a difficult test for Stormberg, as he has played angry ever since Duke’s Austin Rivers hit a game winning three in his face. ” Stormy” will have to constantly keep Marshall in front of him and make sure to channel him to one side. The more lanes Marshall gets, the more dimes he will rack up.
Prediction: North Carolina 82 – Creighton 75
