7 Anaheim Ducks to play in World Championships
We would all love for the Anaheim Ducks to have made the playoffs this season, because lets face it there is nothing better than the NHL playoffs. There are a couple things to look forward to when your team had an off year though. The biggest one obviously is the good draft pick the Anaheim Ducks get in next months draft. Another we get to watch the Ducks players play in an Olympic like tournament in the World Championships that take place from May 4th- May 20th. The Ducks have 7 players in this years tournament, and the NBC Sports Network will be televising a lot of games this year making it all the more fun to root our players, and our country on throughout the tournament. For a complete list of the schedule you can check HERE, and for a schedule of the games being televised check HERE.
Here is a look at the 7 players us Ducks fans get to watch play in the tournament, and the 4 teams that they play for.
United States- The Ducks have 3 players playing for the US this year making it all the more fun to root for our (well most us) home country. Bobby Ryan looks to be on the top line, so he should be getting plenty of minutes and very fun to watch. Cam Fowler also made the US team on defense and should also see plenty of minutes on even strength and on the power play. A late addition to the US team is one of the Ducks top prospects Kyle Palmieri, who after a small stint with the Ducks this season looks to make the team at the start of next season.
Canada- Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry the 2 Ducks star forwards (well not including Teemu Selanne) are playing for team Canada this year. Perry lead the western conference in goals for the 2nd straight season, while Getzlaf statistically had a down season. We all know the talent level these players have, and they will also be a lot of fun to watch. Watching them go head to head against the US will be great. Of course I will be pulling for the US, but I would like to see Getzlaf and Perry do great as well.
Switzerland- Unlike the US and Canada, not to many NHL players on Switzerland but the Ducks are lucky to have one of their best players in Luca Sbisa. Sbisa did great this past season, and is showing us that he can be a special player on defense. He will bring his physical play to the Swiss blue line, and should help make them competitive although they will be seen as underdogs with the lack of NHL players on their team.
Sweden- Okay so he is not “officially” a Duck yet but after the tournament the Ducks will announce the details of signing goaltender Viktor Fasth. Fasth is expected to be the back up goaltender for the Ducks this season. Just the fact that it looks like Fasth will be starting for Sweden over Jhonas Enroth who had a great season for the Buffalo Sabres this past season tells me that Fasth must be a highly thought of Goalie. I really look forward to watching him play as it will be our first chance to get a good look at Fasth before he puts on a Ducks sweater next season.
As always be sure to check back HERE often, and I will try to keep you updated with this tournament, and anything else Ducks related through out this off season.
