Report: UConn’s Andre Drummond Entering NBA Draft

When UConn freshman Andre Drummond committed to the Huskies late last August, the hype surrounding the nation’s defending champs quickly escalated.

UConn began the season ranked among the nation’s best, but things quickly began to fall apart once late December rolled around.

Fast forward four months and things continue to worsen.

The Huskies are facing a 2013 postseason ban for low APR scores, senior forward Alex Oriakhi has already decided to transfer and fellow star Jeremy Lamb has already made his intentions clear in heading to the NBA.

So, to nobody’s surprise, freshman star Andre Drummond has also decided to forgo the remainder of his eligiblity, declaring for the 2012 NBA Draft according to this CT Post report.

In his lone season in Storrs, Drummond showcased his true potential on numerous occasions, giving enough reasoning into why he is projected to be selected so high in this June’s draft.

On the season, Drummond averaged 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-10 big man had his best game on Dec. 18, scoring 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a victory over Holy Cross.

Drummond struggled however, in what has turned out to be his final collegiate game, scoring only two points in the Huskies’ season-ending defeat in the Round of 64.

Given UConn’s expected postseason ban, the decision for Drummond, a likely Top-5 selection, appears to be a no-brainer.

NBADraft.net lists Drummond as the No. 4 selection, while DraftExpress.com labels the freshman as the No. 2 prospect in this year’s field.
