Tyler Ennis made his collegiate decision on Thursday evening, selecting Syracuse over the likes of Illinois, Memphis, Louisville, and UCLA.

At 6-foot-2, Ennis is easily labeled as one of the top point guards in the class of 2013.

With high praise from many, Ennis chose the Orange, becoming the first member of the program’s class.

The decision was readily expected, as Syracuse was rumored to be the team to beat for the guard’s service. Head coach Jim Boeheim and the Orange staff were all over Ennis during his recruitment, and that hard work has paid off as Ennis will join the squad for the 2013-14 season.

Syracuse has been known for having a number of top-quality guards over the years, and it comes as no surprise given Boeheim’s style of play.

Ennis is Canadian, a native of Ontario, who ran with the CIA Bounce on the AAU circuit. However, Ennis will head to Syracuse following one more season at St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ).

After losing guards Scoop Jardine (graduation) and Dion Waiters (No. 4 overall pick in 2012 NBA Draft), the Orange enter this upcoming season with expected starters Brandon Triche and Michael Carter-Williams in the back court.

However, the addition of Ennis gives Boeheim time to breathe while looking ahead to 2013, given the fact that Triche is currently entering his senior season and will be running the point guard duties for the Orange this season. A torch that will eventually be handed to Ennis.

Ennis is the latest Canadian to head to Syracuse, following in the footsteps of former stars Andy Rautins and Kris Joseph.
