2013 SG/SF Davon Reed Narrows List to Three Schools
2013 shooting guard/small forward hybrid Davon Reed has narrowed his list of schools down to three recently.
The 6-foot-5 New Jersey native indicates that although it could change in the future, right now he is down to Wake Forest, Miami and Xavier.
Right now the plan for Reed is to visit Wake Forest the second weekend in September, Miami the weekend after Wake Forest, and Xavier the first weekend in October.
All three schools seem to fit right in with his emphasis on high-caliber schools with strong academics as well. Reed cut the list to five earlier in the week, with Memphis and Connecticut rounding out the other schools, but it now appears that Miami, Wake Forest and Xavier are the only three left in the running.
From a personnel standpoint Reed makes sense for all of these teams. Head coach Jeff Bzdelik at Wake Forest has compiled a roster with many versatile players that can play the 2-4 positions.
Jim Larranaga and Miami will be looking to replace several 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-6 players in 2013 with the departure of Durand Scott, Garrius Adams, and Trey McKinney Jones following the 2012 season.
Up in Ohio, Chris Mack and Xavier are also fond of Reed because of the talents he could provide from the perimeter and on the defensive end for the Musketeers.
Reed is not only rated as a three-star on ESPN, and the 5th best player in the state of New Jersey, but recently received a Youth Role Model Award from Joint Effort Princeton.
On the court Reed relies on his ability to knock down three -point shots, as well as his athletic versatility to wreak havoc on opponents. His 6-foot-5, 185 pound frame allows him to play the PG, SG and SF role at any time for Princeton Day School.
His frame makes him a great candidate to be a force on defense, especially if he were tasked with shutting down the opposing shooting guard game in and game out.
In a recent tweet from Reed’s Twitter account, he indicated that he would like to make his decision in October, presumably after he has completed all of his official visits and had the chance to think the decision over.
Schools that offered Reed a scholarship but did not make his final cut include: Cincinnati, Louisville, Harvard, Connecticut and Memphis.
Whatever school Reed signs with will land not only an above average basketball player on the court, but a great person off the court as well.
