The arrival of Tim Hudson could not be more timely for the Atlanta Braves. He will make his 2012 debut on Sunday and seamlessly take over for the recently demoted Jair Jurrjens. Jurrjens was demoted to work on his pitches, but most of all to figure out what the hell is going on with his stuff right now. Is it mental? Is it physical? Has he not figured out how to pitch with the knee brace? These are the questions Jurrjens will embark upon answering in AAA.

Hudson’s arrival is a big lift for the Braves. They have relied heavily on the veteran hurler over the past few years and he will add a veteran presence to the rotation that is heavy on the young side.

His arrival also means that the Braves will not need to demote Randall Delgado. Delgado has continued to pitch well for the Braves, though this has not come without learning experiences. None were so painful as this past Sunday’s. After getting the first two outs of the 2nd inning and the first two strikes against the Jason Kubel before allowing a single, he later walked Ian Kennedy with the bases loaded to score a run. He then gave up a grand slam to Gerardo Parra two pitches later. He still has a lot to learn, but he has been very productive for the Braves in his limited action the past two seasons. These experiences are only going to make him better moving forward.

Tim Hudson’s arrival will only make that more apparent. He will be able to mentor Delgado and offer him guidance as he continues to develop. Most of all, he will be able to provide the Braves quality production in the Jurrjens’ spot in the rotation.
