Baltimore Orioles Crush The Oakland Athletics 10-1
With a 10-1 victory against the Oakland Athletics, the Baltimore Orioles are tied for first once again with the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s been a fantastic start to the season for the Orioles, as their record of 13-8 shows they’ve been one of the best teams in the American League. Let’s take a look at some of the stars from last night’s game:
1B/3B Chris Davis -Davis went 3/4 with a home run and 4 RBI. The Orioles picked him up along with Tommy Hunter in a trade that sent Koji Uehara to the Texas Rangers. At 26 Davis is finally breaking out, as he’s hitting 313/352/582 with 4 homers and 11 RBI. The Orioles have to be thrilled with the return so far.
SP Wei-Yin Chen – He dominated the A’s last night, going 7 innings while allowing only 1 run. He was a fantastic signing for the Orioles, as so far he’s got a 2.22 ERA with 19 strikeouts against 8 walks.
CF Adam Jones – Jones went 3/4 with an RBI, as he continues to carry the Orioles offence. He’s in the middle of a 7 game hit streak, raising his batting average by 35 points. It’s a career year for the centerfielder, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Orioles need to decide whether or not they’re going to keep Jones, because his potential contract is growing with every big hit he delivers.
The Orioles finish their series with the Athletics this afternoon, as Tommy Hunter (2-1, 4.74 ERA) faces off against Bartolo Colon (3-2, 2.62 ERA). After that the Orioles will have a very tough stretch where they play the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox the Texas Rangers, the Tampa Bay Rays, and finally another series against the Yankees. This is one of the toughest stretches of the season, so we’ll see if the Orioles are for real over the next few weeks.
