College Football Recruiting: Ohio CB Decommits from Penn State, commits to Michigan
It didn’t take long for Avon, Ohio cornerback Ross Douglas to find a new home after decomitting from Penn State in wake of the NCAA sanctions placed on the program.
On Monday, after Douglas heard of the NCAA announcement regarding the future of Penn State’s football program, he publicly decommitted from the Nittany Lions. About 24 hours later, Douglas had made his decision and announced it over Twitter.
“Just committed to Michigan!!!!!,” Douglas tweeted. Along side of that was the hashtag #GoBlue.
I have a feeling Douglas felt real good after that knowing he now was heading to a program that will challenge for the Big Ten title this season. It’s his prerogative to do and feel so. As it is for all recruits in the Penn State class after the program’s crippling sanctions.
Douglas committed to Penn State during the spring over offers from several other Big Ten schools, including the Wolverines. He’s considered a four-star prospect by many of the major recruiting services.
It’s a big pick-up for Michigan as their defense made major strides last season under defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. With several teams operating under the spread offense now in the Big Ten, the secondary will be a large key for the defense.
Douglas is the 23rd commit for Brady Hoke’s 2013 recruiting class, and fourth in the defensive backfield for the Wolverines. It’s a position where Hoke and his staff have paid a lot attention to in the offseason.
There will likely be several more recruits to flee from the Nittany Lions. For now, they hold on to the number one pocket passer in Christian Hackenburg from the 2013 class.
A lot of young men will have some big decisions to make.
