New York Times Report: Missouri’s Application to the SEC “Inevitable and Imminent”
Dak Dillon-US PRESSWIRE

In a breaking news report by the New York Times, it appears as if Missouri is moving closer towards an application to the Southeastern Conference.

The Times is reporting that a person with direct knowledge of the situation called Missouri leaving for the SEC “inevitable and imminent.”

Per the Times article:

“Missouri’s Board of Curators will meet on Thursday and Friday at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where the process of withdrawing from the Big 12 and applying to the SEC is expected to begin.”

I doubt there would be any road blocks from the Big 12 or SEC—the SEC currently sits at 13 members after adding Texas A&M, so they need to find someone for conference symmetry.

Missouri’s draw to the SEC is not so much their program, but rather the St. Louis market and the surrounding areas. The SEC is looking to expand and create an even more marketable conference.

The Big 12 added TCU recently and said they had no plans of adding until after 2012; with Missouri’s possible departure that could change things.
