Sandusky and Updyke Trials Likely Delayed
Jeffrey G. Pittenger-US PRESSWIRE

Jerry Sandusky and Harvey Updyke, one a disgraced former defensive coordinator and the other a maniacal fan, are both asking that their respective trials be moved to later dates.

The Lee County judge in Updyke’s case has already approved the request, so the intriguing and frankly sad case of an Alabama supporter gone wrong, won’t begin next Monday (March 5th).

Updyke poisoned the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner on the campus of Auburn University and then famously incriminated himself on Paul Finebaum’s Birmingham radio show.

The former Texas state trooper runs through lawyers the same way Trent Richardson ran through linebackers so it makes sense that his current attorney would need more time to interview witnesses and craft the case.

Alleged child predator Jerry Sandusky filed a motion to have his May trial date pushed back to July.

Like Updyke, Sandusky’s attorney needs more time to create a defense. Ten children accused the one-time Penn State football staff member of sexual abuse.

Justice being served to the minor victims in Sandusky’s case is obviously, the most important factor.

But there’s no doubt, college football executives would like both of these trials to wrap before next fall.

The 2011 season had a cloud of NCAA sanctions, scandals and boorish behavior looming for the entirety. 2012 will be a success if it’s remembered for on-field exploits.

What a novel concept.
