Kameel Jackson Announces Transfer From Oklahoma To Texas A&M, Aggies Aware?
Freshman wideout Kameel Jackson’s produced decent numbers (12 catches, 165 yards) for the Sooners in 2011 but it’s his use of social media that’s drawing headlines during the offseason. Jackson told the Oklahoma Rivals site that he was transferring and the destination was Texas A&M. He tweeted out confirmation:

The move wouldn’t shock considering Jackson is an Arlington, Texas native and the Aggies added another Sooners transfer in running back Brandon Williams earlier this year. But per the same Oklahoma outlet, Jackson’s switch might be news to Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin.

And that’s Exhibit A as to the public risk that accompanies social media. Jackson may have spoken with the Aggies, he could very well end up in College Station but to announce it before the school has finalized the paperwork is dangerous. It puts both coach and player in a bind to either finish the transfer or leave one party a bit embarrassed.
Taking Brandon Williams made sense for the Aggies. He’s a former 5-star running back who fits a particular need in Kevin Sumlin’s offense. His talent meant he had a home in College Station the moment he showed interest. Jackson, a former 4-star in his own right, might not represent the type of gamebreaker Sumlin is willing to wait on (he’ll have to sit a year) compared to incoming recruits. The Aggies have three wide receiver commits in their 2013 class (Derrick Griffin, Jamar Gibons, Quincy Adeboyejo) so at some point, a numbers crunch dictates whether a transfer can earn one of 85 scholarships.
It appears Jackson decided to leave Norman, regardless of his eventual landing spot, when Trey Metoyer emerged as a likely candidate to start. Whether that played the ultimate role is unknown but college football readers are about to find out a lot more about Kameel Jackson’s second recruitment simply because of Twitter.
