Big East Leads All Conferences with Nine Teams Headed to Tournament
The teams have all been selected, and March Madness has officially begun. A year after setting a record for most teams invited to the NCAA Tournament with eleven, once again, the Big East leads all conferences with nine teams headed to the Big Dance this season.
Syracuse, the Big East regular season champion, picked up the No. 1 seed in the East region and will face UNC-Asheville in their first match-up.
Both Marquette and Georgetown picked up No. 3 seeds. Marquette will face either BYU or Iona in the West region, and the Hoyas will battle against Belmont in the Midwest.
Louisville, fresh off their Big East tournament title, was chosen as the West region’s No. 4 seed and will square off against Davidson.
Cincinnati, the No. 6 seed in the East, will face off against the Texas Longhorns, who are making their 14th straight tournament appearance.
Notre Dame, a No. 7 seed in the South, will take on Xavier.
The UConn Huskies picked up the No. 9 seed in the South. They will square off against the Big 12′s Iowa State Cyclones.
West Virginia, as a No. 10 seed in the East will take on Gonzaga in the second round.
Finally, South Florida, in their first season in the Big East, will play against California in a play-in game. The winner will face Temple.
