Big East Football: Navy in no Hurry to Join Big East
Fresh off their tenth straight victory against Army, Navy can now turn their focus to deciding whether or not they want to join the Big East.
While the other teams that will be joining the Big East will do so in 2013, Navy is not prepared to make the move just yet.
Navy has some cleaning up to do with their future schedules which go through 2018 and television contracts which also run through 2018. The Midshipmen also have bowl contracts through 2017.
They will have to sure up all of this before feeling free enough to join the Big East conference. They are asking for the help of the Big East when picking future opponents.
Navy was also waiting to see if there would be stability in the Big East and as of one week ago when the new teams joined, it is now a very stable conference.
The recent decision by Air Fore to stay in the Mountain West and not join the Big East has now had an impact on Navy at all.
Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk will eventually meet with Big East commissioner John Marinatto to discuss their future plans.
While it seems likely that Navy will eventually be ready to join the Big East, the big question that now arises is whether or not the Big East will be willing to wait for Navy.
With schools such as East Carolina, Memphis and Temple knocking on the door, the Big East may not be willing to wait for the Midshipmen to clear up their schedules.
This could be an ongoing saga that could last well into 2012 before anything is decided.
