CHAPEL HILL, N.C — The greatest College Basketball rivalry can be found in the state of North Carolina only 8 miles away from each other, between Duke and North Carolina. Both teams ranked top 10 in the nation, both teams having star power, and both teams having two Hall of Fame head coaches. The rivalry and series brings more than just players, coaches, and a game tonight. These two schools combine for:
- 47 ACC Regular Season Champions (28-UNC 19-Duke)
- 36 ACC Conference Tournament Champions (19-Duke 17-UNC)
- 33 NCAA Final Four Appearances (18-UNC 15-Duke)
- 9 NCAA National Champions ( 5-UNC 4-Duke)
- 27 ACC Player of the Year (14-Duke 13-UNC)
- 18 National Player of the Year (9-Duke 9-UNC)
- 80 All-Americans (44-UNC 36-Duke)
This year’s first meeting will be just as advertised, special. The front line of North Carolina might be the best in the nation going with Tyler Zeller, John Henson, and Harrison Barnes. All three will be in the NBA next season, and all will give Duke’s front line of Mason Plumlee, Ryan Kelly, and Miles Plumlee a hard time. The front court of the Duke Blue Devils have the attacking and shooting capability with Austin Rivers, Seth Curry, and Andre Dawkins to make this game high scoring. The transition attack and passing of point guard Kendall Marshall will be something important for the game plan of North Carolina. This is going to be an exciting game, just like games in the past.
