Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh Fourth in Forbes List of Disliked Athletes
In a Forbes poll of “America’s Most Disliked Athletes” Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh landed in the fourth spot on the list. How did Suh’s stock fall so far, so quick? Pre-season fines, taunting an opponent, a suspension, and a widely reported car accident probably only added fuel to the fire.
Suh’s issues started back in the preseason when he was being labeled as a dirty player for his hit on Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Andy Dalton. He was later accused in the regular season of taunting Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan while he was on the ground with an injury.
The fallout from Suh’s two-game suspension for stomping on Green Bay Packer offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith’s arm in the Thanksgiving Day game must have played a role in the results. The press Suh received from a car accident while he was home in Portland during his suspension did not help his cause either.
It has been a rough go at it as of late for Ndamukong Suh. He has seen his reputation take significant hits in not just the media, but also in the court of public opinion. Just a few months ago Suh was among the most popular athletes in the country. This poll serves as an indication of how far Suh’s image has taken a hit.
Michael Vick and Tiger Woods led the poll at number one and two, while Plaxico Burress was not far behind at number three. This is where it really hits home for Ndamukong Suh in terms of his public image and perception. He may have been behind those three athletes, but he came out ahead of the likes of Kris Humphries, Terrell Owens, and A-Rod to name a few.
Has it gotten this bad for Suh that he is even more disliked in Forbes terms than LeBron or Kobe as well. Only time will tell if Suh can rebound his image, if he cannot he will continue to grow into the role of an NFL villain.
