Mike D'Antoni of the New York Knicks resigns

By Utsav Panchal

A source has told Yahoo Sports that coach Mike D’Antoni has resigned. Conflicting interests with the club, and the complaining of such players probably forced D’Antoni to resign. The Knicks have been on a downfall as of recently, dropping their last 6 games, and their last 8 of 10 overall. After Linsanity and they longest winning streak of the season, the Knicks have crumbled.

Sources are saying that D’Antoni s having conflicting visions of the clubs future, the decision was mutual. Mike Woodson will now be taking over as Interim head coach. The possibilities for future coaches are Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan. What will these news mean for the Knicks? Nothing really. The Knicks have already been freefalling, and with this resignation, the downfall will surely continue. The Knicks seem to be having more than just problems with Carmelo and Amare, the problem seems to be suited somewhere at the head of the organization and is trickling downwards to the coaches and players.

When we’re trying to analyze, where does the blame really come from? We all know that Denver was immediately a better team after it traded Carmelo Anthony, and New York was immediately a worse team. After the 8 game winning streak led by Jeremy Lin while Melo was sitting out, the Knicks have went 2-8 with Carmelo back in the lineup. Carmelo Anthony was a -50 in 4 games last week with the Knicks. That means that the team allowed 50 more points with Carmelo in the lineup. Such an astounding number for a supposed “superstar” player. In my opinion, it’s clear that it wasn’t D’Antoni’s fault, and I really can’t blame him for resigning.

The search for Knicks  head coach will go on next season, and I fully don’t really expect Phil Jackson to go there. Phil Jackson, I believe, if he wants to coach again, will coach for a team that has no front office troubles and no disgruntled players. Phil will want to win now, he in now way will want to coach a rebuilding team. That leaves options Mike Woodson, Jerry Sloan, and possibly even Jeff Van Gundy. We’ll have to wait out the remainder of this season and see if Woodson can do anything, but anything can happen to the Knicks right now.
