Today in Boston Bruins History: April 8
1970: Boston Bruins history is made when the Bruins score five goals in a single period during a playoff game against the New York Rangers. Bobby Orr scores twice. Derek Sanderson, Phil Esposito and Wayne Cashman each add a goal. During this game, which the Bruins win 8-2, Esposito nets a hat trick.
1972: The Bruins shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0 in quarterfinal playoff action.
1981: Ray Bourque takes nine shots in a single period of a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the most in team history for a playoff stanza. The Penguins take home the win, though, 4-2.
1982: Barry Pederson scores a hat trick by putting away three goals during the second period of a playoff game against the Buffalo Sabres. The Bruins win 7-3.
A year ago today: Heading into the final stretch of their regular season–although certainly not their last games of this campaign–the Bruins have a practice session.
