1974: The Boston Bruins and Chicago Black Hawks each score three goals on the power play during their game, tying the team record for most power play goals in a playoff game. Also in this game, John Bucyk scores a hat trick and ties a league record with three goals on the man advantage. The Bruins win it 8-6.
1978: The Bruins win in overtime, 4-3 against the Black Hawks.
1980: In another 4-3 overtime win, the Bruins take it against the New York Islanders. This overtime win came after Rick Middleton tied the game at 19:40 of the third period.
1990: The Bruins defeat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime.
1991: Ray Bourque makes Boston Bruins history when he becomes the team’s leading playoff scorer with 103 points. Points 102 and 103 come during a 3-2 Bruins win over the Canadiens in their division final series.
1992: Adam Oates helps the Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres in their division semifinal series by scoring in overtime–right off the draw.
2010: Another overtime hero–Miroslav Satan scores in overtime for another 3-2 Bruins win over Buffalo. His goal at 27:41 of overtime ends the 13th longest game in team history. Tuukka Rask assists on the goal, making him the second goalie in league history to assist on a playoff overtime goal.
A year ago today: Speaking of overtime heroes, Michael Ryder scores in overtime, his second goal of the game, to give the Bruins a 5-4 win over the Canadiens. Andrew Ference, Patrice Bergeron and Chris Kelly also score. This is also the game where Ference gets in trouble, eventually doling out $2500 in fines, for the “intentional bird” he flips to the Bell Centre crowd after scoring.
