Today in Boston Bruins History: May 6
1976: A 6-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers ends the Boston Bruins’ 1976 playoff run.
1988: The Bruins defeat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 in Game 3 of the semifinals.
1999: In the first game of the conference semifinals against the Buffalo Sabres, the Bruins take a 4-2 win.
2011: Milan Lucic scores twice, Johnny Boychuk adds a goal, plus Brad Marchand and Daniel Paille both score separate empty net goals as the Bruins beat the Flyers 5-1 and complete the sweep. Tim Thomas stops all but one of the 23 shots faced. The win is notable in Boston Bruins history because, for the first time since 1992, the Bruins move to the Eastern Conference Final. Sadly, though, the Bruins move on to the conference final without Patrice Bergeron, who took a hit from Claude Giroux that resulted in a concussion. But, to end this post on a lighter note, here is a highlight reel from Game 4.
