Boston Celtics Doc Rivers And Company Finally Break The Season’s Script
The Boston Celtics game against the Orlando Magic looked like it was following a familiar script. The Celtics struggled in the first half going down by as many as 27 points. The team barely registered a pulse as they scored a pedestrian 37 first half points. The main reasons for this abysmal start was due to the fact the offense looked wretched. Guys looked lost out there together as they failed to move without the ball and the Celtics took too many quick shots. As usual the defense was not much better. The Celtics looked a hair late on the rotations and the Magic made them pay by burying shot after shot.
However, the Celtics just do not get blown out. After being dominated for the entire first half, the Celtics would rally by playing like gang busters. Paul Pierce would come alive and bury shot after shot over helpless Magic defenders. Rookie E’Twaun Moore would also show that he has the potential to be a shooter off the bench by burying four threes on his way to 16 huge points off the bench. The team would play their way to even tying the game.
This is where the script took a turn for the better for Celtics fans. The usual script like in the Dallas and Chicago games is the Celtics come close, but then find a way to lose by handing the game to these other teams with stupid shot selection and dumb turnovers.They were so close and yet so far. Unlike those games Boston broke through against the Magic and took the win.
The Celtics did not play take terrible shots. Paul Pierce deferred to his teammates instead of taking terrible shots. The team continued to play suffocating defense on the perimeter. They held Dwight Howard in check in the paint. They gang rebounded. The result was Boston won a thrilling come from behind win walking away.
The trade mark fight has been here all year. However, the never say die attitude is not enough to win games. The team needed to execute on both ends of the floor and they did. Those that were ready to bury Boston might have done so very prematurely. As this game clearly shows Boston is more than capable of pulling off the improbable with a very talented veteran roster that knows how to win. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!!
