BOSTON- The Boston Celtics last year found a guy that was great for the team chemistry in Mickael Pietrus. Pietrus became a favorite among teammates with his energetic personality and willingness to put his body on the line. Pietrus had a knee injury that he dealt with all year and still found a way to fight through the pain and give a banged up Boston Celtics team some needed minutes during their run to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

After the playoffs the situation of Pietrus returning to Boston seemed like only a matter of time before he returned to Boston. The problem for Pietrus is he felt that he was worth more than the veteran minimum Boston was offering. Pietrus was coming off an injury and no team is going to give him more than that veteran minimum deal until he proves his health better than it has been the last two years. Fellow bench member and favorite Keyon Dooling wanted to stay in Boston and understood the market for veteran players of his ilk coming off an injury and thus signed the veteran minimum deal to stay with the Celtics.

The question is will Pietrus have a change of heart and accept a veteran minimum deal to return now that he knows the market is not exactly hot for him? Actually that is not really the question. The fact is Boston moved on from him. They signed Courtney Lee and Jason Terry to play the two guard spot. The Celtics also drafted Kris Joseph and resigned Jeff Green to back up Paul Pierce at the small forward spot. The real question is does Boston have room for Pietrus?

The answer is no unless an injury occurs during training camp or early in the year. The guard spot is crowded. Pierce and Green can divide up the minutes at the small forward spot. These two men are used to big minutes so dividing up the forty eight between the two should not be a problem. If an injury occurs, then Joseph can get a shot to play some minutes. The rookie and former Syracuse leading scorer might surprise some folks should he get in the game because he is by all accounts a very smart player.

The depth Boston has leaves no room for Pietrus. Pietrus’s minutes are no longer here in Boston. Jeff Green is back and Paul Pierce is still here. Pietrus time in Boston will be remembered as solid with a great attitude and a body that betrayed his spirit. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!

Could not disagree more. With Avery Bradley missing the beginning of the season, and with Jeff Green’s lack of playing last season, and seeing that Courtney Lee is new to this system, there is still a place and a need for Mickael Pietrus on this roster.
