BOSTON- Boston Celtics cult hero Brian Scalabrine is returning home to the Celtics. Well maybe not the Boston Celtics organization, but a member of the team that covers them on TV. After much soul searching as Scal pondered whether to go into coaching or the media sector, Scal decided to turn down an offer that he had to join the Chicago Bulls coaching staff and instead take a job as an analyst covering the Boston Celtics for Comcast Sports New England.
The move by Scalabrine is a bit of a surprise. Scal was tabbed by many including Celtics head coach Doc Rivers as a future NBA head coach. Scalabrine had a great basketball mind and was really great at teaching players offensive and defensive schemes during practice. Scalabrine and the respect of both veterans and young players and that is the first step to becoming a great NBA coach. A move to the Bulls bench would have been a nice way to begin an NBA coaching career as he would have learned from a great coach in Tom Thibodeau. However, in the end Scal’s heart was not into coaching just yet.
The move to the media will be seamless for Scalabrine. During the playoffs, Scal already tried the job out by appearing on Comcast Sports to provide analysis for Boston’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals. Scalabrine has a great personality and a great basketball mind. I expect Scal to provide both comic relief with goofy segments and hard hitting analysis. Scal knows the Boston Celtics, the key players, and members of the organization during his five years spent here. This experience should provide Scal with great insight into the Celtics organization both on and off the floor. Scal is also a cult icon that the fans love and will tune in to watch. I know I will be tuning in after the games now. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!
