Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz Hits Two HR’s in Team’s 11-6 Victory Over Oakland A’s
For what started as a really bad month end up being salvaged as the Boston Red Sox continued their surge as of late with an 11-6 win against the Oakland A’s. David Ortiz hit two home runs as the team finished the month at .500 with an 11-11 record.
The Sox had to reel off seven of their last eight to ensure the .500 record by April’s end. The team won six out of seven on the road and then one the first game of the series against the A’s at Fenway last night.
It was the 36th multi-homer game for “Big Papi” David Ortiz in his career. Mike Aviles and Darnell McDonald added home runs of their own as well to complete the early route that had the Sox up 11-1.
Clay Bucholz was just as inconsistent as he has been all season. Bucholz went into the seventh inning allowing only one run, but then let Oakland right back into the game with a five run inning.
Junichi Tazawa and Vicente Padilla came on in relief only to see the A’s load the bases. Dustin Pedroia bailed the Sox out with a nice double play off a ball up the middle from former Boston player Josh Reddick.
If Bucholz continues to pitch this poorly you would have to wonder if the team would consider either moving down in the rotation or possibly out of it. His ERA is over eight (8.69) and even though he has only five starts thus far in the season, Bucholz has not looked solid in any of them.
The bright spot for Boston as of late is that the team has been able to put things together offensively to make up for a lack of quality pitching from both the starters and the bullpen.
The pitching will need to get going consistently if the team is expected to compete long term. This is a step in the right direction for a team that just over a week ago was 4-10.
