The New York Yankees turned a 5-4-3 Triple Play on Thursday afternoon against the Oakland Athletics. It was the first triple play in the Yankees organization since 1968, and is one of the most rare feats in all of professional sports.

There have only been 22 triple plays in all of the Yankees long and storied history. Nick Johnson the designated hitter for the Bombers got a rare start at first base, and was a part of the historic play.

Johnson had this to say:

“They got rid of it pretty quick, Alex got rid of it, Robbie got rid of it.” “It was pretty cool to be a part of. A lot of things have to go right, but as soon as Alex touched third and threw to second, it was a good exchange and I knew it could happen.”

The Yankees play tonight at Anaheim where we will see a little more of an ALCS rematch.
