It appears that Roger Clemens still has it. Well, sort of.

As is the annual tradition in Austin, Texas Longhorns baseball alumni, including Clemens, Huston Street, and Drew Stubbs went up against the 2012 Longhorns squad in the Alumni Game yesterday at Disch-Falk Field.

Roger Clemens drew the assignment of pitching the first inning for the alumni, and was perfect, striking out two of the three batters that he faced. Cohl Walla and Taylor Steil were Clemens’ victims, both of whom project to be starters for this year’s Texas team, with Walla the likely lead-off hitter and starting center fielder.

Since the steroid allegations against him in the past few years, Roger Clemens’ presence on the Forty Acres has been somewhat more limited than in the past, where he was a constant fixture on the sidelines of Texas football games and in the stands at Texas baseball games.

Current MLB pitchers Huston Street (San Diego Padres), Chance Ruffin (Seattle Mariners), and James Russell (Chicago Cubs) also pitched for the alumni, while Omar Quintanilla (Texas Rangers) and Drew Stubbs (Cincinnati Reds) also took the field.

Even Brooks Kieschnick– a Texas baseball legend who had a somewhat disappointing professional career– pitched an inning for the alumni.

The Alumni Game is a great tradition in Austin and gives fans a very unique opportunity to see pro players who once wore a Texas uniform up-close and in-person and also get a quick preview of what that season’s team has to offer.
