National League MVP Ryan Braun Wins Appeal; No Suspension
Can you hear that exhale from Brewers’ fans? Well, it certainly isn’t from the re-signing of Jermichael Finley, but it is from Ryan Braun winning his appeal.
Braun, who tested positive for a large amount of testosterone in December, has won his appeal. He will not be suspended fifty games, which is the minimal amount of games a first time offender is suspended for under the MLB drug policy.
This is a HUGE break for the Milwaukee Brewers, and a tough one for the rest of the National League Central. Fans, including myself, figured it was a forgone conclusion that Braun was going to sit out the first two months of the season. But with these recent developments, the Brewers remain in the driver’s seat to defend their National League Central title.
While the departure of Prince Fielder hurts the Brew Crew, the acquisition of Aramis Ramirez makes up for a good chuck of Fielder’s production.
While it’s all roses for the Brewers and their fans. Major League Baseball thinks those roses smell like poo-poo-poo.
UPDATE:
Here is a statement from the MLB:
Major League Baseball Executive Vice President for Labor Relations Rob Manfred issued the following statement today:
“Major League Baseball considers the obligations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program essential to the integrity of our game, our Clubs and all of the players who take the field. It has always been Major League Baseball’s position that no matter who tests positive, we will exhaust all avenues in pursuit of the appropriate discipline. We have been true to that position in every instance, because baseball fans deserve nothing less.
“As a part of our drug testing program, the Commissioner’s Office and the Players Association agreed to a neutral third party review for instances that are under dispute. While we have always respected that process, Major League Baseball vehemently disagrees with the decision rendered today by arbitrator Shyam Das.”

So happy to see that the right thing happened with Braun. I honestly never believed he did it and am happy to see that the right decision was made. MLB can get over themselves because Ryan is clean!
