Ivan Rodriguez has been an established journeyman catcher throughout his career and is likely headed to the Hall of Fame after his career in the baseball is over. However, the New York Mets are not one of the teams he will be playing for in his career, according to ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin.
With the Mets have three possible options at catcher, it seems more and more unlikely that I-Rod will not be a Met. Josh Thole is expected to be the starting catcher heading into the 2012 season while Rob Johnson and Mike Nickeas vying for a backup spot.
Rodriguez is planning to stay in shape in case anything does happen. The 21-year veteran almost signed with Arizona in the beginning of the off season.
