Jose Canseco Denies Report He Was Juicing in Mexican League
ESPN.com has reported Jose Canseco’s most recent comeback attempt has ended due to his refusal to take a doping test. The 47-year-old former American League MVP was working to secure a roster spot on the Quintana Roo Tigers. Canseco is denying the report.
This news comes as a surprise to anyone who follows Canseco on Twitter, as he seemed genuinely remorseful for taking illegal steroids and appeared to be very happy to be back on a baseball diamond.
According to the ESPN report, Canseco admitted to Mexican League officials that he took a banned substance, ending his comeback, which apparently was going well.
Canseco last played in the majors with the Chicago White Sox in 2001, but has been popping up at celebrity boxing events, MMA fights and in various obscure minor leagues ever since. Last year, he served as a player/manager for the Yuma Scorpions, who play in the independent North American League.
Conseco’s 2005 book Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big named several of his contemporaries who used illegal steroids.
