Outside of Ricky Romero, Toronto’s starting staff is full of question marks. Will Dustin McGowan pitch? Will Brandon Morrow learn how to pitch? Will Kyle Drabek reach his potential? Will Henderson Alvarez continue pitching at a high quality. Those are four question marks right there.

Floyd – who is more SABR friendly than he is traditional friendly – has averaged a 4.1 WAR over the past three seasons, which is probably why Blue Jays’ GM, Alex Anthopoulos, wants him so badly. After failing as one of the Phillies’ top prospects for inconsistencies, Floyd has become one of the most consistent pitchers in the American League.

He isn’t a world beater by any means, but you know what Floyd is going to give you. He is going to give you 190-200 innings, his FIP will be under 4, and his K:BB will be around the 2.5 to 3.0 range.

Unless Deck McGuire or Anthony Gose are in a package, I don’t see the benefit of trading Floyd now. Trade him in June/July when a team is desperate for a starting pitcher. Also, for a team that has little momentum going into the season as is, a trade of Floyd will deflate any hope of optimism for the White Sox.

The White Sox really don’t have a formidable replacement for Floyd, unless you want to count Zach Stewart, Dylan Axelrod, or Hector Santiago as formidable.

Floyd is under team control for two more seasons. He will earn $7 million this season, with a $9.5 million club option for 2013.
